Shariah Advisor Profile

Mufti Umais Zubairi is a qualified Shariah Advisor and Islamic finance professional with over six years of experience in Islamic banking, Shariah compliance, and product development.

He completed his Aalamiyah (Islamic Scholar Program) from Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi and earned his Specialization in Islamic Jurisprudence (Takhassus fil Ifta) from Jamia Sharaf-ul-Madaris Karachi. He also holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Karachi and has further strengthened his professional expertise through specialized certifications in Islamic Banking and Finance from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi.

Throughout his professional career, Mufti Umais has worked with renowned financial institutions, including Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) and Habib Metro Bank – Sirat Islamic Banking, where he gained extensive experience in Shariah-compliant product development, Islamic finance structuring, transaction review, documentation, regulatory compliance, and Shariah advisory services.

In addition to his advisory responsibilities, he is an experienced trainer who has conducted numerous training sessions, seminars, and workshops on Islamic banking, Shariah compliance, and Islamic finance for banking professionals, corporate organizations, and educational institutions.

Currently serving as the Shariah Advisor at Pak Oman Investment Company Limited – Islamic Finance Department, he is responsible for ensuring that the company's products, investments, financing structures, and operational activities remain fully compliant with the principles of Islamic Shariah while supporting the organization's commitment to ethical and Shariah-compliant financial solutions.

At POICL-IFD, the Shariah Compliance Function ensures that all Islamic finance activities align with Shariah principles while supporting the mandate of a Development Financial Institution (DFI).

Under the supervision of a qualified Shariah Advisor, it oversees Shariah review of products, structures, and agreements, ensuring compliance, transparency, and commercial viability. In line with the State Bank of Pakistan’s Shariah Governance Framework (SGF), it also manages ongoing compliance monitoring, internal reviews, and implementation of Shariah audit observations.

Acting as a key link between management and the Shariah Advisor, the function ensures that all operations remain fully compliant with regulatory requirements and sound Islamic finance principles.

Our Shariah Compliance

Our Shariah Compliance function ensures that all products, transactions, and business activities are conducted in accordance with Islamic Shariah principles and applicable regulatory requirements. It reviews financing structures, legal documentation, policies, and processes to ensure compliance with AAOIFI Shariah Standards, the State Bank of Pakistan’s Shariah Governance Framework (SGF), and internal governance requirements.

The department provides independent oversight through ongoing monitoring and periodic Shariah reviews, promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct across Islamic finance operations. In collaboration with management and the Shariah Advisor, it supports the delivery of sustainable and fully Shariah-compliant financial solutions.
